Formula 1 teams will be meeting with the FIA later today to discuss the option of moving the Chinese Grand Prix to Saturday.
There was limited running on Friday due to poor weather conditions grounding the circuits’ medical helicopter. As it couldn’t reach the FIA’s designated hospital, the second session was cancelled completely.
The weather looks clearer on Saturday, but Sunday’s forecast looks poor.
As the Bahrain Grand Prix follows a week later, the race is unable to be moved to Monday because of freight and shipping issues.
It is not certain what sessions will run and whether qualifying will take place in place of Free Practice 3. The matter will be discussed at the drivers’ briefing on Friday night which will be attended by team managers as well. Any decision will require consensus from all teams however.
Free Practice 1 saw Max Verstappen top the times with the Williams duo of Felippe Massa and Lance Stroll in P2 and P3 respectively.
Australian Grand Prix winner Sebastian Vettel failed to set a competitive laptime, as did his teammate Kimi Raikkonen.
Lewis Hamilton, Jolyon Palmer, Esteban Ocon, and Sergio Perez all failed to set times as well.
