Pascal Wehrlein has revealed that he has started talks with the Force India F1 team for a possible race seat in 2017.
The 21-year-old, who was at the DTM finale last weekend, hinted that he has discussed the option of replacing Renault-bound Hulkenburg in 2017.
“There is a seat left at Force India now so, of course, discussions have taken place, but let’s see how it develops,” said Wehrlein speaking to the German Motorsport-Magazin. “At the moment I have a contract with Manor this year and I am fully focused on this.”
Part of the Mercedes young driver programme, Wehrlein was DTM Champion in 2015 and has impressed on his debut season scoring Manor’s second ever points finish.
It is understood that Mercedes will continue to supply Force India with engines for next campaign, with a more competitive deal on the table if Wehrlein signs.
