The Sauber was described as a basic-looking car after its launch last week, which was expected to be the case given the financial constraints facing the Hinwil-based team.

But the team are to be bringing new parts to the car for the final pre-season in Barcelona, although Ericsson did not comment on what type of upgrades they would be.

“As far as I know there will be quite a few new things on the car for test two next week,” he said.

“I don’t know if big things are coming for this week already, but definitely next week we have quite a few things that are going to come.”

The Swedish racer was last in the standings on the first day of testing, some five seconds off the ultimate pace, but added that the team are not currently looking at lap times just yet.

“Today for us was nothing about lap times. I haven’t really looked [at the times],” he commented.

“We need to sort out our car first and get everything under control and get the proper running and then we can start looking at our lap times.

“I think for us today we were running quite heavy and not really pushing. I want to wait a bit more for ‘pushing’ laps before I know where the limits are. But just for a first day I was enjoying it.”

Ericsson managed to complete 72 laps during the first day in the car.
