British Grand Prix – McLaren’s Fernando Alonso was one of three retirees at Silverstone, coming into the pits on Lap 32 to withdraw from the race.
Alonso started the race from the very back, due to engine penalties handed out over the course of the weekend for various parts being replaced. Working his way forward during the race, he was forced out on Lap 32. Reporting a loss of power, he slowly drove back into the pits and into retirement.
Alonso confirmed a fuel pump issue, with the team reporting a drop in fuel pressure leading to the loss of power.
“Tough times. We had another issue today, this time with the fuel pump. It didn’t damage the engine, so we should be able to keep using it again. Difficult weekend with the penalties and starting last….at least we weren’t in the points or the DNF would have been more painful.”
