Banned Ferrucci replaced by Lorandi at Trident

Suspended Haas development driver replaced

The Trident Formula Two team have named Alessio Lorandi as the replacement for banned Haas development driver Santino Ferrucci.

Ferrucci was involved in a confrontational couple of races at Silverstone, where he was judged to have run his team-mate off the road and collided with him during a cool-down lap.

He was also guilty of other misdemeanours, including failing to attend the stewards hearing, and driving his car without a glove and holding a mobile phone.

He was handed a two-event (four-race) ban and was dropped by Trident, who offered their full support to his team-mate Arjun Maini after the incident.

His replacement, Alessio Lorandi, has been part of the Trident setup in 2018, driving for them in the GP3 Series and raced in the same team as Maini in the 2015 Formula Three championship.

“We are delighted to promote Alessio Lorandi to our line-up for the FIA Formula 2 Championship,” said team manager Giacomo Ricci.

“His experience and driving style impressed Team Trident’s technical staff, and they believe he is ready to take a step up to Formula 2. Lorandi will receive maximum support from the team so he will be able to quickly learn all the secrets of the new series for him.

“With Alessio and Arjun, the team will be able to rely on a tight-knit pairing. They have already been team-mates in Formula 3 so we are sure that they will work well together.

Haas have so far taken no action against Ferrucci and, at the time of writing, he remains a Haas development driver until the American team have further reviewed the incident.
