Belgian Grand Prix – The qualifying session for this weekends’ Belgian Grand Prix has been delayed due to heavy rain.
The session which was scheduled to run at 15:00 local time, has been postponed whilst the stewards wait for the standing water to clear. Q1 will start at 15:12 local time as the safety car rounds the circuit to clear the standing water.
Rain has been forecast for the Belgian Grand Prix all weekend with wet weather also due for the race on Sunday. Free Practice Three earlier on Saturday was blighted by rain with drivers initially setting times on the intermediates, however, more rain midway through the session ensured that no driver could improve their times.
There is a dry patch coming some time during the scheduled qualifying session, but heavy rain is due towards the end.
With only four sets of intermediate tyres and three set of full wet tyres the drivers have to be mindful of their mileage, especially considering the Grand Prix on Sunday is predicted to be wet as well.
Teams took to social media to share pictures of the drenched Ardennes circuit. Alfa Romeo tweeted “to whoever is doing the rain dance: it’s working.”
