Australian Grand Prix – Valtteri Bottas has called his win at the season-opener as the ‘best race’ of his career after taking a dominant victory.
The Mercedes driver overtook team-mate Lewis Hamilton at the start of the race to take the lead of the Grand Prix and, from there, looked immovable at the front.
The Finn took victory by over 20 seconds to record the most dominant win of his Formula One career, prompting him to call it the best race of his career.
“I don’t know what just happened, I don’t know what to say!” said Bottas after the race.
“The start was really good. It was definitely my best race ever.
“I just felt so good and everything was under control. The car was so good today, truly enjoyable and I’m going to enjoy today.
“I think it’s all the past years in Formula One, all the extra work over the winter, all the work I’ve done inside here [head] since last year.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing car and the team we have. It was such good fun.”
When asked about his decision to go for the extra point for fastest lap, he added that the risk was worth the reward.
“I still had good pace and I wanted to go for that [the fastest lap]. It’s always a bit risky with worn tyres, but it was worth it.
“I’m just so happy and I can’t wait for the next race!”
