Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Valtteri Bottas beat his Mercedes Formula 1 team mate Lewis Hamilton to victory in the season finale.
Bottas led from pole and built a 2.5s advantage over Hamilton before the Finn pitted on lap 21 of 55.
Hamilton went three laps further into the stint but rejoined the track with the gap to Bottas equal to what it was before the pit stop phase.
But Hamilton mounted an attack in the second half of the race, getting the gap down to the 1s mark, but he ran off the track at Turn 17 after a lock-up which brought the gap back up again.
Having fended off another attack from Hamilton, Bottas eventually built the gap up to almost 5s to take his third Grand Prix win.
Sebastian Vettel completed the podium for Ferrari, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen who had Max Verstappen for close company throughout the race.
His team mate Daniel Ricciardo retired from fifth with a hydraulic issue shortly after his pit stop.
That elevated Nico Hulkenberg to sixth, a result which was more than enough to put Renault ahead of Toro Rosso for sixth in the constructor’s championship.
This was despite a 5s time penalty Hulkenberg received for passing Perez off the track at Turn 11 on the opening lap.
Sergio Perez beat his Force India team mate Esteban Ocon to seventh, with the Frenchman attempting an overcut on Perez but to no avail.
Fernando Alonso was ninth for McLaren, passing Felipe Massa’s Williams in the first DRS zone into the Turns 8/9 chicane short after the Brazilian exited the pits.
Massa continued to finish 10th in his final F1 race.
Carlos Sainz Jr retired as the front-left wheel was not secured during his pit stop, pulling off the track on the pit lane exit.
Kevin Magnussen spun at Turn 3 on the opening lap which limited him to only 13th, with team mate Romain Grosjean 11th.
Pierre Gasly had a spin at Turn 20 early in the race and ran off the track at Turn 17 later in the race. He was 16th across the line behind team mate Brendon Hartley who started last.
