Barcelona Testing – Valtteri Bottas set the fastest time of pre-season testing so far on the morning of Day Two of the second test.
The Finn did a performance run on the supersoft tyre to do a 1:19.310, bettering the fastest time of the first test he set by four tenths of a second.
Tuesday’s pacesetter Felipe Massa was second, a tenth of a second off his former team mate using the ultrasoft tyre. Both drivers completed over 60 laps for their session total, and both will hand the cars over to their team mate for the afternoon.
Kimi Raikkonen was the fastest driver on the soft tyre in third, clocking only 35 laps as he had to sit out two hours running whilst Ferrari performed a fluid system check on his car.
Max Verstappen was fourth ahead of Nico Hulkenberg who set his fastest time on the supersoft tyre. He was just under two seconds away from Bottas’ pace on the same tyre, completing over half a century of laps before Jolyon Palmer takes over for the afternoon.
Sergio Perez did 49 laps for Force India in sixth on the supersoft tyre, ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr. on the softs. Toro Rosso have enjoyed a strong start to the second test after suffering several reliability issues during the first test.
Romain Grosjean was eighth in his Haas ahead of Pascal Wehrlein who did an impressive 55 laps. Marcus Ericsson will be driving the Sauber in the afternoon session.
McLaren only completed 27 laps during the morning with Fernando Alonso, but the team assures that there were no problems with the car and that they were simply running a different run programme.
