Canadian Grand Prix – Scuderia Ferrari will not run their ‘Mission Winnow’ sponsorship branding for the next two races.
Ferrari’s contentious title sponsor, Mission Winnow, is an initiative from the Philip Morris International brand that also owns Marlboro cigarettes.
While Mission Winnow very deliberately seeks to distance itself from smoking and instead focuses on the companies non-smoking related alternatives, some authorities have questioned this, seeing it as a loophole to sidestep tobacco advertising legislation.
As a result of an Australian investigation, Ferrari dropped their Mission Winnow branding for the season opener in Australia before it returned for the second round in Bahrain. However, Ferrari have opted to pull the branding again for the upcoming Canadian and French Grands Prix – countries with strict advertising laws related to smoking products.
In its stead, Ferrari will run the same logos they did in Melbourne – stickers celebrating the team’s 90th anniversary will adorn the SF90 and the team’s race and pit overalls. Ferrari stress that Mission Winnow remains the team’s title sponsor.
