McLaren ‘accidentally’ reveal MCL35 launch date

McLaren will launch their MCL35 on the 13th of February after ‘accidentally’ revealing it in a live YouTube stream with Lando Norris.

McLaren have become the latest team to reveal their launch date for 2020, albeit may have done it completely by ‘accident’.

Back in the UK after spending a day at the CES innovation convention in Las Vegas last week, Lando Norris visited the Autosport International Show in Birmingham over the weekend.

On Monday afternoon, Norris did a livestream ‘behind the scenes’ video from the McLaren Technology Centre in which he revealed the launch date of the MCL35 to be the 13th of February. Walking into a meeting in which the marketing team briefly had a chat with Lando on the livestream, the British driver confidently asked: “So, it’s on the 13th of February, yeah?” before the video quickly ended.

Since, McLaren have confirmed the date themselves as being the 13th of February. They are the third team to announce their launch date, along with Ferrari and Alpha Tauri.

  • Ferrari: 11th February
  • McLaren: 13th February
  • Alpha Tauri: 14th February

The MCL35 will be driven by Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz over the coming season.

The build-up to the new season has been pretty good off-track for the McLaren team, who revealed last week that they have signed a prominent new sponsor. Having lost Petrobras two months ago, McLaren have signed Unilever as a technical partner from 2020, having snaffled them away from the Williams team.
