Michael Schumacher’s 2002 Championship Ferrari will go under the hammer at this year’s Abu Dhabu Grand Prix.
Formula 1 will hold an auction at this year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Taking place on the Saturday evening of the race weekend, auction house RM Sotheby’s will be providing high profile cars and memorabilia for the auction, which is open to registered bidders.
The cars will be paraded down the start/finish straight before going into the auction, meaning attending fans can also see the cars going on sale.
Sotheby’s has announced that Michael Schumacher’s 2002 Ferrari will be up for grabs. Chassis No. 219 drove this exact car to three wins that year, at Imola, the A1 Ring and Magny Cours. This means this is the exact car Michael drove across the line to be crowned that year’s Champion.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the F2002 will be donated to Michael Schumacher’s Keep
Fighting, Never Give Up Foundation.
Also announced is a near-new 1990 Ferrari F40, which is low-mileage and has been painstakingly restored to pristine. It is also signed by Sebastian Vettel.
“The Michael Schumacher F2002, chassis no. 219, is truly special; it represents one of the last Rory Byrne-designed, V10 era cars and was like a guided missile in acquiring wins on route to a Championship won with sheer racing dominance.” said Oliver Camelin from Sotheby’s.
“As a result, it remains as one of the most dominant Formula 1 racing cars in history and is fittingly joined by
the ultimate in Ferrari supercars in the virtually as-new Ferrari F40.”
