Mercedes have held a surprise livery reveal ahead of the launch of their W11, due to the team signing INEOS as a new sponsor.
Mercedes have announced that INEOS will become a ‘Principal Partner’ of the team on a new five year deal, which suggests that the team have no intention of leaving Formula 1 any time soon.
At an event held at the Royal Automobile Club in London, Mercedes held a press conference to announce the new partnership and show off the new livery ahead of their team launch on February 14th.
INEOS are a British multi-national chemicals company, who manufacture and distribute a wide range of petrochemicals, speciality chemicals and oil products.
“We have a genuine passion for sport.” said company CEO Sir Jim Radcliffe. “Formula 1 is one of the most exciting, as evidence by it being watched by more people than pretty much anything else. It’s this intriguing marriage of sport and technology…you know, we’re always debating what would Lewis Hamilton do in a different car? It’s an intriguing marriage, it’s very exciting and lots of adrenaline!”
“We have a great admiration for a great engineering company that’s at the top of its game.” Radcliffe concluded.
“It’s a superb new chapter for us to attract INEOS and what unites us is the ambition and competitiveness.” said Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.
“We met after Barcelona testing last year, and when we started to look into working together, you can see what mankind is able to create with passion and understanding and the drive to succeed. Over 20 years from a startup to one of the most successful companies in the world. These values unite us and we share the passion for competitive sports.”
