Pat Fry to join Renault on February 5th

Renault have confirmed that their new chassis technical director Pat Fry will join them formally on February 5th, having left McLaren.

Renault have confirmed the start date for Pat Fry, who joins the Enstone team from McLaren after working there in 2019 in a consultancy capacity. Fry helped with overseeing the design of last year’s MCL34 and joins Renault in place of the departed Nick Chester.

Chester left Renault after almost two decades with the Enstone team through various iterations, having been responsible for the recent relatively successful R.S.18 and R.S.19 chassis. Chester stepped down with immediate effect after the season closer in Abu Dhabi, when it was announced that Pat Fry would take his role as chassis technical director.

Fry will begin work at Renault on February 5th, with Renault confirming that he will be present at the team’s launch in Paris on February 12th.

Renault go into 2020 with fresh leadership on the technical front with Fry on the chassis, and Dirk De Beer as Head of Aerodynamics. De Beer replaces Peter Machin in the role.

Fry has worked in a consultancy capacity for teams in recent years, including McLaren and the now defunct Manor team, having formerly worked for Ferrari between 2011 and 2015. Before that, he spent almost two decades at McLaren, and started off his F1 career with Enstone when they were the Benetton team in the early 90s.
