Renault have shown off parts of their Renault Sport F1 car, the R.S.20, with a pre-launch of the car at an event in Paris.
Renault’s R.S.20 has broken cover, in a way. The French team have offered ‘glimpses’ of the new car at a launch event held in Paris.
Race drivers Daniel Ricciardo and new signing Esteban Ocon were in attendance at the event in the L’Atelier Renault in Paris, where team boss Cyril Abiteboul revealed the actual R.S.20 can’t be shown off as it hasn’t been fully built yet – the car is currently en route to Barcelona for winter testing which starts next week.
The 2020 car is being presented initially in a testing livery, which will be fully revealed in a pitlane launch next week at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona.
The team say they have reached the end stages of a lengthy consolidation period, with fresh hirings and changes on the personnel front. This includes the signing of Pat Fry, who was at the launch to mark the end of his first week of work with Enstone.
“Taking back fourth position in the Constructors’ Championship remains the objective over a season that will be more hotly-contested than ever.” said team boss Cyril Abiteboul.
“For the coming season, we must respect the three priorities identified during the off-season: reliability from the get-go; ensure a high level of development very early in the season and have a good conversion rate on track. However, we also need to regain confidence and reinforce team spirit to get the best from everyone, and to maximise our chances each race weekend during this unprecedented long and challenging season.”
“2020 is also a pivotal year that marks the end of one cycle and the preparatory phase of another. This year must see us setting the best possible course for the major regulation changes of 2021. The organisational changes made in the second half of 2019 are with this firmly in mind.”
Daniel Ricciardo, heading into his second season with the Renault team after joining from Red Bull at the end of 2018, said: “I’m looking forward to blending into the team better on the back of having a full season behind us – so things are going to be easier in that sense. I learnt a lot about myself and obviously a lot about the team.”
