Monaco Grand Prix – Pirelli have revealed the Monaco Grand Prix tyre choices ahead of the sixth round the season in Monte Carlo.
Owing to the change in tyre dimensions for this season, the tyre choices for the first five races were decided by Pirelli, with each team receiving the same allocation.
For the Monaco Grand Prix onward, teams are once again allowed to choose ten of the thirteen sets for each Grand Prix weekend.
Due to the very low degradation seen by Formula One tyres on the streets of Monte Carlo, the ultra-soft tyre dominates the team’s selections.
Three teams have chosen the maximum allocation of the ultra-soft tyre; Ferrari, Williams and Renault. All teams must have at least one set of each tyre compound.
Mercedes and Toro Rosso have elected to have three sets of the super-soft tyre available to them for the race weekend.
McLaren’s Jenson Button is the only driver to opt for more than one set of the soft-compound tyre – the least degradable compound of the available tyres.
Button will compete in place of Fernando Alonso, who ha chosen to miss the Monaco Grand Prix to compete at Indy 500.
