Pirelli find slow puncture as cause for Silverstone drama for Vettel
Pirelli have discovered that Sebastian Vettel suffered a slow puncture at the end of the British Grand Prix, following an investigation.
After analysing the tyre, Pirelli have found that a final failure on his front-left tyre then occurred on the penultimate lap.
Vettel pitted and dropped from fourth to seventh as a result, and his championship lead has come down to one point after rival Lewis Hamilton won the race.
His team mate Kimi Raikkonen also suffered a front-left tyre issue a lap prior to Vettel’s issue. It is suspected that the tread came apart in his case, after it was almost immediately concluded that the two Ferrari drivers suffered separate issues.
Pirelli say that further analysis is required to fully pinpoint the Finn’s issue, with the results expected to be announced in the coming days.
Raikkonen managed to maintain a podium position but lost second place to Valtteri Bottas.
