Chinese Grand Prix – Renault have confirmed that they have added Chinese racer Ye Yifei to their junior roster ahead of the race in Shanghai.
Added to their expanding list of development drivers, 18-year-old Ye Yifei has joined the Renault team after impressing in the lower Formula Renault categories.
He took the French F4 Championship back in 2016 and has since competed in the Formula Renault championships, finishing third in last year’s Formula Renault Eurocup series.
Earlier in 2019, he finished runner-up in the Winter Series of the F3 Asian Championship.
“It’s a real honour to join the Renault Sport Academy,” said Yifei. “Over the years I have seen its members go on to achieve great things in racing.
“It gives incredible support in all areas; physical training, working with world-class engineers, media experience and career guidance.”
The increasing number of Renault junior drivers now includes GP3 champion Anthoine Hubert, and F3 drivers Christian Lundgaard and Max Fewtrell.
Renault already have one Chinese driver in their junior ranks, Guan Yu Zhou, who has moved up to Formula Two for the 2019 season and already driven an old Renault Formula One car in a demonstration run prior to the Chinese Grand Prix.
Above Guan Yu Zhou in the pecking order are reserve driver – and last year’s Williams driver – Sergey Sirotkin and test driver Jack Aitken, who is competing in Formula Two in 2019.
