According to reports, Ferrari are set to confirm Mattia Binotto as their new team principal, replacing Maurizio Arrivabene.
Ferrari appear to be willing to shake things up after the team failed to mount a season-long championship challenge to Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton for the second year in a row.
Reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport, Arrivabene will be replaced by Ferrari’s technical chief Binotto, who will take the reins for the start of the 2019 season.
This would indicate that Ferrari president John Elkann has decided that a management reshuffle is required in order to execute a stronger campaign.
Binotto has been a long-time member of the Ferrari team; he joined them as a test engine engineer in 1995 and mostly has the same role until 2003.
From there, he was appointed a race engineer in 2004, before taking on a chief engineer role in 2007, and then being appointed as Head of Engine and KERS Operations in 2009.
He rose through the ranks to become a deputy director in 2013 before becoming Chief Operating Officer of Ferrari power units.
Finally, he was appointed Chief Technical Officer in July 2016.
Ferrari have come under scrutiny after their championship challenges tailed off in 2018.
Whilst there were driver errors from Sebastian Vettel, the management and tactical decisions of Ferrari have also been questioned.
They weren’t quick to issue team orders in Germany, and their decision to not give Sebastian Vettel a slipstream from the other Ferrari during qualifying at Monza was considered incorrect.
