Williams have announced that Israeli driver Roy Nissany will take part in some Grand Prix weekends in 2020, in his new role as Test Driver.
25 year old Israeli driver Roy Nissany has been announced as a Test Driver for Williams, having been signed to Williams Driver Academy alongside Jamie Chadwick and Dan Ticktum. Nissany, son of one time Minardi practice driver Chanoch Nissany, took part in the 2019 post-season Pirelli tyre test at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi.
Nissany will take part in three FP1 sessions over the course of 2020, as well as driving one of the mandatory rookie test days over the season. Williams say he’ll be attending three Grands Prix with them, and will be fully integrated into the team during these.
The Israeli driver will also be taking part in simulator work at Williams’ Grove factory, while dovetailing this work with a return to Formula 2. Nissany last raced in 2018 when he drove for Campos in F2, with a season best result of P10 in the feature race at Spa-Francorchamps. He will be driving for Trident in 2020.
“I am thrilled to become Official Test Driver for ROKiT Williams Racing.” said Nissany of the announcement. “This is also a landmark for motorsport in Israel. When I tested for the team in Abu Dhabi in December, I instantly felt comfortable in the car and part of the team. The experience that I will gain this year, immersing myself with Williams will prove invaluable and I’m looking forward to getting started, both on and off the track.”
Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal, commented; “It is a pleasure to welcome Roy Nissany to ROKiT Williams Racing in the role of our Official Test Driver. Roy demonstrated his capabilities driving in the post-season Abu Dhabi test last year and we were extremely impressed with what he could do in a short space of time. He is a hard-working individual who we are excited to be working with this year.”
Nissany’s appearances in the car will trigger the appearance of sponsorship from the Team Israel Start-Up Nation cycling team, with their logo on the FW43 for the weekends Roy is driving in Friday practice.
