Singapore Grand Prix – McLaren’s Carlos Sainz was pleased after claiming P7 in qualifying at Marina Bay.
A great performance from Mclaren’s Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris sees them lining up in P7 and P10 respectively. It was Sainz who got the better of Norris in the qualifying battle this time and he was visibly pleased.
Speaking afterwards, Sainz said: “It’s been a very positive day for us. Congratulations to the whole team. We showed good pace on a low-speed track, which we know has been one of our weaknesses. The rear-end and the car in general has been behaving well the whole weekend and we managed to put together a very good lap in Q3, despite an engine misfire at the end of Sector Three“.
It’s been a good weekend so far for Renault powered cars as both Mclaren and Renault managed to get both of their cars inside the top 10. When asked if a higher position was possible, Sainz added: “P7 was the best position possible out there and it’s a good spot from which to fight tomorrow.”
Andreas Seidl was a very happy team principal today, saying: “It’s great to be back with two cars qualifying in the top 10. This evening in FP3, we could confirm we have a strong car here with the updates the team back home have developed for Singapore. The team and drivers did a great job then to progress through the sessions in qualifying”.
Singapore has, historically, been a good circuit for Sainz. He achieved his best finish in F1 to-date in 2017 by finishing P4. Can he match it tomorrow? Only time will tell.
The race gets underway at 13:10 UK time tomorrow.
