Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Williams’ Sergey Sirotkin has confirmed he will not be in Formula 1 in 2019.
2018 Williams’ driver Sergey Sirotkin will not race in F1 next year. Having joined the team for the 2018 season, both he and Lance Stroll have been replaced for next year. Mercedes young driver George Russell will drive one of the cars, while former BMW & Renault driver Robert Kubica has been confirmed in the second seat.
While Lance Stroll is widely believed to be a foregone conclusion in the second Force India alongside Sergio Perez, Sergey Sirotkin has been left without any options. With Williams making their driver decision so late in the season, pretty much the entire grid has been locked down for 2019, meaning Sirotkin is out of a drive.
The Russian driver, who scored a best result of P10 at Monza, has been a solid fielding for Williams in what has been an uncompetitive year for the team.
“Dear friends, unfortunately, I won’t be racing in Formula 1 next year.” wrote Sirotkin on social media.
⠀
“It was very long and tough year, not everything went as I wanted it to be, but I kept working and gave all my energy and all my heart to achieve what I feel we deserved to and if I am honest, I do believe we did a very reasonable job in current situation we found ourselves this year.”
⠀
“Thanks everyone for your support, for your trust and warm words, thanks for all the support I got during the Russian GP in Sochi which did seriously touch me a lot!”
⠀
“And partly thanks to you all this season will always remain in my memory! Thanks for everything, dear friends!”
