Malaysian Grand Prix – Sergey Sirotkin will have another opportunity to sample the Renault RS17 at this weekend’s race in Sepang.
Renault’s junior driver will make his sixth free practice one appearance for the French marque since he joined in 2016 – his fourth of the season. As well as taking part in the practice sessions at the Russian, Spanish and Austrian Grands Prix, he has also driven in pre-season testing.
Placing third in last season’s GP2 championship, the young Russian has also made a practice appearance for Sauber back in 2014.
Sirotkin will join Sean Gelael (Toro Rosso), Charles Leclerc (Sauber) and Antonio Giovinazzi (Haas) in substituting for regular drivers in the first free practice session for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Gelael, Leclerc and Giovinazzi have all been handed regular free practice outings across the final few races of the season.
Having already appeared in practice for the Singapore Grand Prix, Gelael will have his second race weekend outing for Toro Rosso in Malaysia. Having also driven at the in-season test in Bahrain and Hungary, the rest of his programme includes the race weekends in the US and Mexico.
Runaway Formula Two championship leader and Ferrari development driver Leclerc was recently confirmed to be participating in four FP1 sessions across the back-end of the year; the Malaysian, US, Mexican and Brazilian Grands Prix.
Fellow Ferrari academy driver Giovinazzi will take part in the Malaysian, Mexican, Brazilian and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix weekends for Haas.
Giovinazzi has already sampled the VF17 at the rounds in Britain, Hungary and Singapore, as well as participating in pre-season testing and the first two Grands Prix of the season for the Sauber team, substituting for the injured Pascal Wehrlein.
