*Grid penalties applied. Details below:

  • Fernando Alonso, Pierre Gasly, Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen and Brendon Hartley were demoted to the back of the grid for taking new power unit components. The order was determined by the order in which the cars ran in free practice one.
  • Verstappen, Ricciardo and Vandoorne were handed additional five-place grid penalties due to taking new gearboxes. Vandoorne stays at the head of the penalty-takers because every other driver has a ‘back of the grid’ penalty, whereas Vandoorne only has a five-place grid penalty.
  • Verstappen was given an extra three-place grid penalty for failing to slow for yellow flags in qualifying.
  • Hartley was further penalised for taking additional power unit components, putting him to the very back of the grid.
