Barcelona Testing – GP3 driver Tatiana Calderon has been signed as Sauber’s development driver for 2017.
As part of her role, she will take part in the team’s Young Driver Development Programme, whilst continuing her GP3 duties with Arden, with who she scored two points last season. She will race for DAMS in 2017.
This includes various simulator work as well as engineering coaching at the Grand Prix and at the team’s Hinwil base.
“I am extremely happy to join the Sauber F1 Team as a development driver,” Calderon said.
“I want to thank Monisha Kaltenborn and the whole team for giving me this opportunity, and also Escuderia Telmex for their support.
“I am grateful to be working with such an established Formula One team and to benefit from its long experience.
“I look forward to working with the team and learning as much as I can. It is a step closer to my dream – one day competing in Formula One!”
The Columbian started her karting career in 2005, moved into European F3 Open series in 2012, British F3 the following year before going to the Formula 3 European series in 2014.
She finished second in the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 series in 2015 before making her GP3 debut last year.
