Toro Rosso have released a press statement to say that they have worked out a deal with McLaren to release their former Technical Director James Key next month.
James Key announced his departure to McLaren from the Toro Rosso team last July, at the height of the tumultuous period of summer where McLaren got rid of Eric Boullier, Matt Morris & Tim Goss.
However, as Key was still under contract with Toro Rosso, the Italian team didn’t release him without a fight and ensured that he had to sit through a period of gardening leave. Now, seven months on, that leave appears to be over as a statement from the team said that he would be freed from his contract after reaching an agreement with McLaren.
Key will thus start his new role as McLaren Technical Director on March 25th, 2019, working alongside Sporting & Managing Directors Gil De Ferran & Andreas Seidl (who begins in May 2019) – all reporting to the CEO Zak Brown.
At Toro Rosso, Deputy Technical Director Jody Eggington steps up to the role of Technical Director.
