Formula 1’s final formal test days of 2019 are underway, with a two day in-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya.
Along with the two pre-season tests at the same venue, Formula 1 rules allow for two in-season tests to place each season. This year, both of those tests have come quite early in the year with the first one held in Bahrain in the days following the Grand Prix.
The second, and final, test got underway on Tuesday in Barcelona, with all the teams fielding a car.
Alongside the team’s tests, Pirelli are also running their own test programme with Ferrari and Racing Point supplying an extra car for use by the tyre manufacturer. Pirelli hold several extra tests throughout the year, with all the teams getting their chance to field a car on their behalf.
There are several unfamiliar names taking part in testing as well, with F1 rules requiring that, of the four days of in-season testing in the year, two of those days must be driven by a ‘young driver’, ie. a driver of two or less Grands Prix experience. As a result, here is Tuesday’s line-up:
- Mercedes: Valtteri Bottas
- Ferrari: Charles Leclerc
- Red Bull Racing: Pierre Gasly
- Renault: Nico Hulkenberg
- Haas: Pietro Fittipaldi
- McLaren: Carlos Sainz (AM) / Lando Norris (PM)
- Racing Point: Nick Yelloly
- Alfa Romeo: Callum Ilott
- Toro Rosso: Daniil Kvyat
- Williams: Nicholas Latifi
- Pirelli: Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) & Sergio Perez (Racing Point)
