British Grand Prix – In the tyre choices for round ten at Silverstone, Max Verstappen stands out as having the most conservative Pirelli tyre selection for the weekend.
With the Red Bull driver choosing only seven sets of the yellow-walled soft tyre, he has been allocated additional sets of the medium and hard compounds.
Conversely, the two Renault’s of Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz, along with the two Toro Rosso’s of Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley, will have ten sets of the soft tyre.
Silverstone will be the first venue that will use the ‘ice-blue’-coloured hard tyres, which are similar to last year’s medium-compound tyres, but re-branded.
Suggesting how little the teams think these tyres will be used, very few of the drivers have been allocated more than the one mandatory set of the hard tyres.
Most notably, the two Red Bulls of Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo have two sets of the hardest compound each, along with Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas, Williams’ Sergey Sirotkin, and Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg.
Championship rivals Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have the exact same tyre allocation; one set of hards, two sets of mediums and eight sets of softs.
