Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez will continue with the Mercedes team as a development driver for 2019.
The 27 year old Mexican Esteban Gutierrez will continue with Mercedes for a second season, having joined the World Champion team at the beginning of 2018. His role will continue to see him help out with car development, primarily consisting of simulator work at the team’s base in Brackley.
I’m very proud to announce my continuation with @mercedesamgf1 This year I’ll be Mercedes’ Development Driver and my goal is to help them fight for their sixth consecutive championship!#F1 #Mercedes #Champions #Driver #racing

Gutierrez continues to remain on the fringes of the F1 field, having lost his race seat at the end of 2016. Making his debut with the Sauber team in 2013, he raced there for two years before moving to Ferrari to take the role of reserve driver in place of the late Jules Bianchi.
With Ferrari technical partners with the burgeoning Haas team entering in 2016, Gutierrez landed a drive with the new team alongside Romain Grosjean. However, an average season saw him replaced by Kevin Magnussen.
Gutierrez thus spent 2017 dabbling with IndyCar and Formula E before he landed his development role with Mercedes AMG.
