Ferrari have announced that former Red Bull and Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat will join the team as development driver.
Following an uncertain winter for the 23-year-old, Kvyat has joined Ferrari in a role which will likely involve simulator work and test sessions.
After the confirmation of Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley at Toro Rosso for 2018, Williams were the only option available for a 2018 race seat. However, the second Williams seat is likely to go to Sergei Sirotkin.
Kvyat joined Formula One as part of Red Bull’s driver academy in 2014, securing a seat with Toro Rosso before being promoted to Red Bull for 2015.
A strong season looked to have earned him another year at Red Bull, but driver errors prompted the team to switch him with Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen.
Since then, Kvyat struggled for form. He was outscored by team-mate Carlos Sainz before eventually being dropped towards the end of 2017.
