Ferrari have confirmed that an electrical issue was the source of Sebastian Vettel’s stoppage during the afternoon session of the final test day.
An impressive morning for the team on the eight-and-final day of pre-season testing resulted in Vettel topping the timesheets and setting the fastest time of testing so far, with Mercedes not setting a time to match their pace.
However, during the longer stints in the afternoon, Vettel’s car ground to a halt on the exit of turn two, bringing out the red flags.
The car was recovered to the pits, and Ferrari discovered an electrical issue.
The problems was deemed to be unsolvable at the circuit, with the team electing to end their final early and carry out further assessments back at their base in Maranello.
Ferrari have encountered a couple of issues over the course of their second test. Cooling issues hampered day one, a crash (as a result of wheel rim damage) ended day two early, with this electrical issue affecting the final day.
