Mercedes AMG F1’s new car will be shaken down on track on February 13th.
Mercedes have announced that they will be informally launching their 2019 F1 car on track ahead of testing.
Similar to last year’s Silverstone shakedown and media event, the W10 will hit the track on Wednesday February 13th for a shakedown. However, Mercedes stress that, unlike last year, the event is closed and not accessible to media or public.
The track time will use up one of the team’s two permitted filming days for the year, days in which teams are allowed to run their cars for a maximum of 100 kilometres for the purposes of advertising images and promotional videos.
While the event will be closed, the team will then release images of the car to the world including on-track and studio imagery.
The W10 will be Mercedes’ tenth F1 car since their return to the sport as a factory team in 2010, and their sixth of the Hybrid era – an era in which they have won every single title, meaning the new car has some weighty expectations upon it. Lewis Hamilton will be aiming to add to his five driver’s championships in this car, while Valtteri Bottas will be looking to return to winning ways as he couldn’t manage to pull off a race victory in the W09 in 2018.
After the shakedown is complete, the team pack up and head off to Barcelona where official pre-season testing begins at the Circuit de Catalunya on February 18th.

The new car will be driven by defending World Champion Lewis Hamilton, his seventh season with Mercedes, and Valtteri Bottas, returning for his third year with them.
