Stroll – “No need to panic” over losing afternoon of running

Barcelona Testing – Lance Stroll says there is “no need to panic” over losing an afternoon of running after his spin on Tuesday morning.

The Canadian lost the rear of his Williams on the exit of Turn 9, spun and went through the gravel trap. He brought it back to the pits but had damaged his front wing, which Williams only had one of, meaning he has been forced to sit out the remainder of the day’s running.

When asked if he would change his approach for the rest of the testing, Stroll said:

“With the spare parts situation, which is there for sure, that has changed the approach a bit.

“Tomorrow is a new day and we’re just going to put it behind us. We’re all still positive about everything so there’s no need to panic.”

Stroll added during the time he had spent in the car before the spin, he had gained a lot of confidence which has not been shaken off by the incident.

“It’s not a dent to the confidence at all, I was actually really confident and really happy with the car in the few laps I did. I’m looking forward to getting back at it tomorrow, there’s plenty of running ahead.”

Stroll is due back in the car on the final day of the first test on Thursday, but it is not yet known if Williams will alter their driver schedule for Wednesday to allow Stroll to catch up on missed track time.

“We’re going to try and suit the schedule and figure what’s best for us from this point on from the end of the test.

“It’s not ideal. But things happen to everyone. Unexpected things come up and you just have to deal with them. It’s unfortunate for the team, for me, but this is part of the game.”
