Barcelona Testing – Follow our text updates throughout the third day of the first pre-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

18.05: 

Bottas fastest, Stroll crashes out, late problems for Ferrari

Test Day Three – Results

18.00: Chequered flag! Bottas ends the penultimate day fastest with the best time of testing so far.

17.55: We’re green again with just five minutes remaining.

17.54: That’s Ferrari’s first stoppage in all of testing so far. And Vettel has done his hard work today, 139 laps.

17.50: We have a red flag in the closing .Sp5rl!47rs. Vettel has stopped on the pit straight.

17.48: Just ten minutes to go in the session. Plenty of laps being done. Vettel and Ericsson well over 100 laps, Mercedes on the same if you combine the drivers’ mileage.

17.28: 

McLaren Honda finding positives in early engine problems

17.24: Hulkenberg puts himself into fifth place on the soft tyre.

17.20: Williams have confirmed they won’t be reappearing in the session.

16.25: We’re green again!

16.21: That’s the third time in two days that the Canadian has crashed. Pushing the limits is the rookie.

16.17: Another red flag! Looks like Stroll has spun off at Turn 5 and hit the wall.

16.12: Green flag!

16:08: He appeared to simply make a mistake and go straight on at the corner. A small error, but costly.

16:00: Red flag! Sainz is off at turn four. The recovery truck is already there and the delay shouldn’t be too long.

15.32: Vettel’s just gone over the line with a 1:19.952 on the soft tyre. A quarter of a second away from Bottas who did his time of tyres two steps softer.

15.18: Looks like Hamilton is going to repeat Bottas’ good work from yesterday with a full race simulation.

15.13: Grosjean back from a few installation laps. They’re his first of the afternoon.

14.45: Lance Stroll has hit the track. Either he somehow didn’t damage the car during his spin this morning of Williams are plowing through it!

14.39: 

14.33: Hulkenberg wasting no time and is on 10 laps already in tenth place on the medium tyre. Sainz only has a couple of installation laps under his belt.

14.21: Hamilton’s first lap time is a 1:26.038. Unsurprisingly that’s the bottom of the pile. Hulkenberg has put in his first installation lap.

14.14: Aha! A car on track! Hamilton breaks the silence to put in his first laps of the day.

14.10: Just a reminder that Hamilton is now in the Mercedes, in place of Bottas. We also have Carlos Sainz in the Toro Rosso now, and Nico Hulkenberg in the Renault.

14.00: Green flag but nobody heading out on track just yet.

13.57: We’ll be green again shortly for another four hours of running. Can anyone get near Bottas’ 1:19.705 from this morning?

13.00: Chequered flag but we have Stroll in the gravel as well!

12.40: Ericsson has just gone out on the ultrasofts, looks like he wants some of that high grip action before he hands it over to Giovinazzi this afternoon.

12.30: Palmer just popped up to third on the soft tyre, 1.7s off Bottas’ pace.

12.19: Bottas finds another tenth of a second, 1:19.705.

12.17: Bottas is going out on the ultrasoft tyre. Brace yourselves everybody!

12.54: Another fastest lap from Bottas, this time on the supersoft, and it’s the first sub 1:20 lap time of testing. 1:19.838 which beats the pole lap record here.

11.29: Bottas goes purple in all three sectors, and does a 1:20.107. That’s two tenths away from Rubens Barrichello’s pole position record.

11.18: Ericsson on the soft tyre has put himself third, 1.5s off Bottas. Strong haul of laps coming in from him, Alonso and Stroll after a timid start.

11.05: And the lap count so far is:

10.44: Palmer has been out for an install lap following his spin earlier. All cars in the garage at the moment.

10.32: Vettel puts in a new fastest time of the day, 1:21.609, still on the medium tyres.

10.26: 

10.25: Stroll has done two installation laps, that’s his first appearance on track.

10.21: 

10.18: Bottas on the soft tyres now, he goes fastest on a 1:21.632.

10.02: Set-up work going on for Grosjean at Haas, meanwhile Vettel now has the fastest time with a 1:22.222 on the medium tyre.

9.52: Bottas finds more time on the supersofts, 1:22.816. His team mate Hamilton did a 1:20.083 on the same tyre yesterday.

9.49: Bottas noe retakes the top spot on the timesheets, 1:23.570 on the supersoft tyre.

9.48: Kvyat popping in the lap times and has gone quickest on a 1:26.724.

9.44: Nico Rosberg has joined the paddock for today.

 

9.41: Green flag!

9.39: 

9.36: Still under red flag conditions as the marshalls recover the car from the gravel. Had a lot of aero sensors on the car which would suggest he wasn’t pushing.

9.28: It’s Palmer at Turn 3.

9.27: Red flag! We have a car in the gravel.

9.25: He now improves to a 1:27.789 on the medium tyre.

9.23: Vettel now goes fastest on a 1:28.536.

9.22: Still very early days so far, only three laps times on the board from Bottas, Vettel and Celis.

9.17: 

9.15: Mercedes still running the double T-wing Hamilton debuted yesterday. Looks like that’s what they will be sticking with for the season.

9.12: Bottas and Alonso out with some aero sensors on the car. Alonso back in the pits now as Ricciardo heads out.

9.10: Alonso ventures out onto the track for the first time today. Fingers crossed everyone.

9.07: Bottas’ third lap time of the day sees him come down to a 1:32.289. Still a long way to go yet.

9.03: Kvyat and Ericsson have done their installation laps, Vettel has just headed out on track as well. Bottas meanwhile gets stuck in straight away with the first lap time of the day, 1:36.896.
