The calendar for the new ‘W Series’ all women’s racing series has been revealed.
The series has been designed to help raise the profiles of up and coming female racing drivers, and help them gain enough funding to be able to get into established racing series en route to Formula 1.
A calendar for the 2019 season has now been announced, and will send the drivers on a tour of Europe, with Hockenheim, Zolder, Norisring and Brands Hatch all included. This announced schedule will piggyback on the DTM calendar, with W Series acting as a support event for the German series.
“Invigorating and extending our motor-racing support programme for 2019 represented the top priority on our to-do list,” says Achim Kostron from DTM. “We are really delighted with having the possibility to welcome the innovative and professional W Series at DTM. The fact that the organisers of the W Series chose the DTM as platform for their great project speaks for itself.”
The calendar is as follows:
- 3rd-5th May – Hockenheim, Germany
- 17th-19th May – Zolder, Belgium
- 7th-9th June – Misano, Italy
- 5th-7th July – Norisring, Germany
- 19th-21 July – Assen, Netherlands
- 10th-11th August – Brands Hatch, UK
The announcement of the series has drawn mixed reaction from prominent figures in motorsport, with leading female racers like Pippa Mann denouncing the segregated series while Tatiana Calderon & Alice Powell are both in favour of the series. Read more reactions here.
