Kvyat: Important to “bounce back” after first day problems

Test day three pace-setter Daniil Kvyat was delighted with the mileage achieved by Toro Rosso on a productive day for the team.

The Russian’s last-gasp effort at the end of the afternoon session was enough to set the fastest time of the day, and lower the testing benchmark to a 1:17.704.

Equipped with the fastest tyre, he narrowly edged ahead of Kimi Raikkonen’s morning effort in the Alfa Romeo, beating their midfield rivals by around 0.05 of a second on the same tyre compounds.

Speaking after the conclusion of the test day, Kvyat was happy to have a “good feeling” in the car, but placed importance on the mileage covered by the team after suffering a series of small issues on his first day of testing.

“We always knew we could end up in P1,” said Kvyat. “Today, the priority was to bounce back from my first day, which wasn’t an ideal one. We missed a lot of laps that day.

“Today we’ve done everything that was planned and more, so that’s great. It’s a productive day, so the guys must be happy with the work they’ve done.

“We need to continue to do something similar every day to gain as much mileage as possible and gain confidence together.

“Honestly, I would be lying if I said it doesn’t feel good. It feels to my liking so far every time I’m out there, I pretty much know what it’s going to do for me, so it’s a nice feeling so far.

“Of course it’s early days, but a start like this is always welcome, so we plan to try to keep improving and keep working on the car. It’s great.

Rookie team-mate Alexander Albon will take over in the STR14 for the final day of the first test.
