Sauber’s development driver Tatiana Calderon drove the C37 for the first time on Tuesday, taking part in a promotional event in Mexico on behalf of a team sponsor.
Calderon, who has been Sauber’s development driver from the start of 2017, was given the opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car for the first time when she was invited to do a promotional event at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on behalf of sponsor Telcel.
The Colombian driver, currently racing in GP3 with Jenzer Motorsport, completed 23 laps of the circuit, equaling the permitted 100 kilometres of track time for a promotional filming event.
“Driving the Sauber C37 today was an incredible experience.” she beamed afterwards. “The power, the braking and the grip of this car is incredible and I felt very comfortable on the track. After a few laps, you start to get used to the speed and it’s really fun. I want to thank Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team, Escudería Telmex, Telcel, Infinitum and Claro for giving me this opportunity today and trusting me for this task. This is a day I will remember forever.”
“Tatiana drove a Formula 1 car for the first time and did a very good job.” said Sauber’s Xevi Pujolar. “We are happy to see her perform so well and again, we are impressed with her dedication and work ethic. This event marks a positive step for our sport and we hope that Tatiana will continue her progress. “
