Singapore Grand Prix – Sebastian Vettel made amends for his session-ending collision with the wall in FP2 by topping the final free practice session.
After being unable to complete the majority of free practice two, Vettel was finally able to show his pace around the Marina Bay Street Circuit by topping the final qualifying simulations ahead of team-mate Kimi Raikkonen.
His lap time of 1:38.054 was over three tenths of a second faster than his team-mate, whilst the nearest non-Ferrari challenger was Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, who finished over half-a-second down on his championship rival.
There was an improved showing from the second Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas, who got to within half-a-tenth of his team-mate.
The two Red Bulls look like they will be unable to compete in qualifying, with both Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen finishing over a second off the pace. Verstappen struggling with an uncooperative power unit during the session, complaining of “engine braking”.
Romain Grosjean gave Haas renewed optimism about being able to compete at a venue where they thought they might struggle. He finished as bets of the rest and the only other driver to set a time within two seconds of Vettel’s time.
Force India gave an improved showing by placing both cars in the top ten, with Esteban Ocon leading Sergio Perez, whilst McLaren’s Fernando Alonso completed the top ten.
