Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was pleased with how his team fared on day three of pre-season testing, as they concluded their testing program with half an hour of track time remaining.
After two days of topping the timesheets, Ferrari had a quieter day on Wednesday. Sebastian Vettel put in an early time of 1:18.350 on the C3 tyre during the morning session to go P2 behind former teammate Kimi Raikkonen, but didn’t look at improving that as the day wore on. With Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo and Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat both going for glory runs on the softest C5 tyre in the final ten minutes of track time, Vettel was pushed down to finish P4 in the day’s timesheets.
However, even if he’d wanted to, Vettel couldn’t have gone out to try beating any of their times with a similar glory run as Ferrari had already called it a day by that time. At 5.30, about five minutes after Vettel had returned to the garage, Ferrari announced that they had completed their planned program and were finished running for the day. They completed a grand total of 137 laps; the equivalent of two Grand Prix distances. This brings their testing total to 460 laps overall.
“It was good to be back in the car today and put some more mileage under my belt.” said Vettel afterwards.
“Again, we had a busy day and managed to complete our programme, which included a few new items, compared to Monday. We tried a few things around also focusing on set-up and I can only confirm the positive impression I had on day one. Having now put 303 laps in the bag I feel comfortable to say we are satisfied with how the car is progressing.”
