Berlin ePrix – Former F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg was the first man to drive the Gen2 Formula E car ahead of the race at Tempelhof Airport in Berlin.
Rosberg climbed into a single seater for the first time since his championship winning race at Abu Dhabi at the end of 2016 when he took the wheel of the Gen2 Formula E car in Berlin. The new car is due to be used from the start of the next season, kicking off in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
The new car boasts more power, a more aggressive body style, and battery life that will mean drivers won’t have to change cars halfway through races any more.
The retired World Champion, who left at the end of 2016 as he expressed a desire to spend more time at home with his family, was asked about the possibility of a return to motorsport, particularly as his former team Mercedes enter the sport next year with their own Formula E team. He categorically denied the possibility.
Rosberg commentated on the experience throughout with a live microphone as he drove, and was audibly having to work hard at the wheel. He branded it an ‘awesome experience’ and commented on the car’s ferocious acceleration; listen to all his comments in the full video below…
