New York ePrix – Saturday race winner Sam Bird topped the sole practice session for the second race in a red flag-interrupted session.
The first came early in the session as Tom Dillmann hit the wall on the exit of the Turn 6 hairpin and broke his front-left suspension. He parked his car at the following corner, unable to get back to the pits.
The second brought the session to a close as Robin Frijns splayed debris across the track at Turn 10 when he brushed the wall with the back of his Andretti.
Jean-Eric Vergne was second fastest in the session by just under two tenths to Bird, with Maro Engel threatening in third.
The two NextEVs of Oliver Turvey and Nelson Piquet Jr. were between him and team mate Dillmann.
Race one polesitter Alex Lynn had limited mileage after a driveshaft failure in the race prompted a battery change in one of his cars.
Championship challenger Lucas di Grassi was eighth fastest, but had his 200kW lap interrupted by Frijns’ incident.
The Brazilian ran off the circuit after a lock up at Turn 1, as did Felix Rosenqvist who made a similar mistake in qualifying for the first race.
Stand-in Pierre Gasly for Renault e.dams was just 18th and over a second off the pace with team mate Nico Prost last in the session.
