Monaco ePrix – Sebastien Buemi set the pace in FP1 which ended early because of Felix Rosenqvist, who went into the back of Oliver Turvey at the Turn 3 hairpin.
The NextEV driver was slowing for a yellow flag when Rosenqvist approached him on the high speed stretch into the hairpin that leads back onto the Grand Prix circuit, smashing into the rear end of Turvey’s car.
The session was immediately red flagged with only a handful of minutes remaining. The incident is being reported to the stewards.
Nico Prost was second fastest after locking up at Turn 3 and having to use the run-off area. He and Buemi were underneath the pole time from the last race in Season One of 53.478 seconds.
Stephane Sarrazin was third fastest, 1.1 seconds off the pace, ahead of Rosenqvist and Lopez who completed the top five.
Jean-Eric Vergne was sixth ahead of Sam Bird and Esteban Gutierrez, who had a moment at Ste Devote as he locked up and went into the escape road.
Nelson Piquet Jr led the session early on but finished in ninth ahead of Lucas di Grassi.
Mitch Evans finished the session in 11th ahead of Turvey and the two Dragon Racing cars of Loic Duval and Jerome D’Ambrosio.
Nick Heidfeld was 15th followed by Maro Engel and Daniel Abt, who had a difficult session ahead of the two Andretti cars. Robin Frijns also had a drama at the opening corner, spinning his car at the apex.
Adam Carroll rounded out the field in 20th place.
