Di Grassi tops first Montreal practice – FP1 Report

Montreal ePrix – Lucas di Grassi completed a full power 200kW lap to top the first Montreal practice session.

The Brazilian did a lap time of 1:22.451, and was 1.1s quicker than second-placed Sam Bird.

Di Grassi’s championship rival Sebastien Buemi was also one of the few drivers to do a lap at qualifying power, but he lost seven tenths of a second in the final sector and ended the session fourth ahead of team mate Nico Prost.

Bird found himself in the escape road at Turn 1 after locking up on the way into the tight right-hander. He was not alone however, as Daniel Abt and Robin Frijns also explored the limits of the track.

The DS Virgin driver was the quickest to do a lap at 170kW, by two hundredths of a second to Jean-Eric Vergne for Techeetah.

Mitch Evans was sixth for Jaguar, and only 1.4s off di Grassi’s pace, ahead of Felix Rosenqvist, Stephane Sarrazin, Daniel Abt and Nelson Piquet Jr.

Jose Maria Lopez for 11th for DS Virgin on his return to the paddock after missing the New York double header. He was 1.8s off the pace.

Nick Heidfeld was just 18th in the session, and 2.5s off di Grassi’s pace.
