Montreal ePrix – Nico Prost was fastest in FP2 while his Renault e.dams team mate Sebastien Buemi crashed heavily at the final chicane.
The championship leader was on a full power lap when he clipped the inside barrier at Turn 13, the second half of the double chicane which ends the lap. He then went straight on into the TecPro barriers.
There was heavy damage to the front of the car, with the front-left brake on fire when the car came to a rest. Buemi confirmed after the session that the tub was damaged which will require a full rebuild of the car.
The session was red flagged and was not restarted, meaning Buemi’s championship rival Lucas di Grassi, who topped FP1, was unable to do a 200kW lap during the session.
Di Grassi finished the session in 16th with team mate Daniel Abt in 19th after making a similar mistake to Buemi, but he escaped without damage.
Jean-Eric Vergne was second fastest for Techeetah, ahead of Felix Rosenqvist, team mate Stephane Sarrazin, Nick Heidfeld and Sam Bird, who were split by less than a tenth of a second.
Sarrazin started the session with a minor drama as his Techeetah car stopped on the exit of the pit lane. He was able to get his car going again, however, without aid.
Loic Duval was inside the top ten for Dragon in seventh ahead of Robin Frijns, with the two NextEVs of Oliver Turvey and Nelson Piquet Jr completing the top ten.
