Gutierrez, Mortara & Vandoorne to test for Mercedes

Formula E – Esteban Gutierrez will be joining the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team on Wednesday in their latest round of testing for the 2019/2020 Formula E season.

Gutierrez, who is currently part of the Mercedes family thanks to his role as a development driver for the Formula 1 team, took part in three Formula E races for Techeetah during the third season.

These included his home race in Mexico, as well as the Monaco and Paris events. During his time, he had a best finish of P8 and picked up a total of five points before leaving the team in favour of the Dale Coyne Racing team in IndyCar.

The Mercedes EQ Formula E Team, who enter the series for Season 6 later this year, most recently had two days of testing at the Autodromo Riccardo Paletti in Varano, Italy at the end of June where the HWA Racelab drivers, Gary Paffett and Stoffel Vandoorne, completed a total of 218 laps.

In March, at the car’s first shakedown, Vandoorne was joined by Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara where they put the car through its paces for 527km over three days.

Speaking after that test, Managing Director of Mercedes Formula E Ian James said: “At Varano, we completed our second set of tests in preparation for season six.”

“All in all, it has been two very positive days of testing, during which we were able to put the new power unit in the car through its paces. But we also saw that there is still a lot to do so that we arrive well prepared for the first race in November.”

This week’s test will see Gutierrez join Vandoorne and Mortara at the Circuit Mallorca in Spain. While Mortara is confirmed at Venturi again for next season, the debut Mercedes Formula E lineup is still yet to be announced.
