Berlin ePrix – Nico Rosberg has climbed back behind the wheel of a single seater in Berlin.
The 2016 Formula 1 World Champion announced his retirement from racing immediately after his championship winning showdown with Lewis Hamilton at the end of that season. While he hasn’t shied away from the public eye by commentating, vlogging, and working with the media in general, he hasn’t yet felt the need to get back behind the wheel of a single seater.
However, it was announced prior to this weekend’s Berlin ePrix that Rosberg, who recently became a fully fledged investor in the all-electric championship, would take the wheel of the Gen2 car and take it for a demonstration run. With his former team Mercedes AMG also entering Formula E in 2019 and making announcements regarding their FE effort on Thursday, speculation was rife that Rosberg may be tempted to make a return to full time racing and lead the Formula E Mercedes EQ team when they enter.
Rosberg and Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag have refuted this, with Rosberg simply saying ‘No’ to a possible return, and Agag saying that he got as far as approaching Nico’s wife, Viviane, before getting a joking “Don’t even think about it”.
Rosberg took the wheel of the Gen2 car and carried out the planned demonstration run ahead of the shakedown at the Berlin ePrix.
