New York ePrix – Formula E rookie Alex Lynn topped a damp first practice in New York ahead of his DS Virgin team mate Sam Bird.
The session started in moist conditions and dried gradually as the session progressed, with lap times continually tumbling with each lap. Lynn ended the session with a 1:05.977, almost two tenths up on Bird.
Berlin race winner Felix Rosenqvist was third by a quarter of a second ahead of Nico Prost and Daniel Abt.
Championship protagonist Lucas di Grassi was sixth, almost half a second off Lynn’s time.
Dragon Racing’s Jerome D’Ambrosio was seventh ahead of Jaguar’s Mitch Evans who had Robin Frijns between him and team mate Adam Carroll to complete the top ten.
Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne was 11th, and was the only driver to run off the circuit with a moment at Turn 5 after locking his brakes.
Venturi’s Tom Dillmann brought out the red flags in the first five minutes of the session when his car stopped on track, with the Frenchman unable to restart his car. He was able to rejoin the session in his second car, and finished 15th.
Formula E debutant Pierre Gasly, standing in for Sebastien Buemi who is racing in the World Endurance Championship this weekend, was 17th in his first all-electric session. The reigning GP2 champion missed Friday’s shakedown session as he was on simulator driving duties with Red Bull Racing.
