Rome E-Prix – Mahindra Racing driver Felix Rosenqvist was fastest in FP2 while DS Virgin’s Alex Lynn crashed for the second time in two sessions.
Rosenqvist took the top spot early in the session to go 0.011s clear of reigning champion Lucas di Grassi with a 1:35.828. He improved later in the session to a 1:35.467 to end the session 0.344s clear of DS Virgin’s Sam Bird with di Grassi third.
The session once again ended early as Alex Lynn brought out the red flags for the second time of the day. He damaged his front-left suspension after running into the barriers because his brakes were not up to temperature in FP1, and slid sideways into the barriers at the start of the final left/right sequence at Turn 16 which ends the lap.
The session was not restarted and, unlike FP1, practice starts were not carried out after the session, meaning not everyone has done a start today.
Jose Maria Lopez was fourth fastest for Dragon ahead of the two Renault e.dams of Nico Prost and Sebastien Buemi, and team mate Jerome D’Ambrosio.
FP1 pacesetter Nelson Piquet Jr was eighth fastest, 1.357s off Rosenqvist’s pace. He was ahead of the team mate Mitch Evans in 10th and the Andretti of Tom Blomqvist.
Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne did not get a full power lap in during the session. He was 16th when the session was stopped.
Either side of the Frenchman in the standings were Daniel Abt and Nick Heidfeld, who were also duly out of position.
Maro Engel, Andre Lotterer and Edoardo Mortara completed the field.
