Hong Kong ePrix – Venturi has announced a technical partnership with Mercedes motorsport specialists HWA ahead of the 2017/18 season.
Engineering personnel from HWA will be provided as well as technical support throughout the season.
The partnership comes ahead of Mercedes’ arrival into the all-electric series with a factory team for the 2019/20 season, after Mercedes works drivers Maro Engel and Edoardo Mortara were announced as Venturi’s line up for the coming season.
“This organisation boasts an impressive record. In the DTM for example, where they are the official partner of Mercedes,” said Venturi President Gildo Pallanca Pastor.
“Venturi and HWA will both benefit from this collaboration. My teams in Monaco, stronger than ever, are working hand in hand with HWA.”
Founded in 1998, HWA has played a significant role in Mercedes’ motorsport history: running a championship winning GT team before going on to take all seven of the German manufacturer’s DTM titles. It also builds the engines for its Formula 3 cars.
The announcement also tied in with the arrival of Jacky Eeckelaert, who spent 30 years in Formula 1 in teams such as Sauber, Honda and Super Aguri, as Chief Engineer.
Venturi suffered gearbox issues during pre-season testing at Valencia due to a batch of faulty components, but the team has said that the latest test on the dyno shows that the problems have been resolved.
